点评:For a number of years now, the disgraceful state of the fountain in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, has been a real bug bear. After visiting Lady Dixon Park with my two daughters at the recent Rose Week, it prompted me to contact Belfast City Council Parks Department to express my disgust at it.
The water in the fountain is either black, brown or green (probably algae), it is constantly filled with litter and is NEVER switched on. What is the point of a fountain that is never switched on? This is no good to neither man nor beast. In regards the fountain head/spout, when it is rarely switched on, this is pathetic and an embarrassment and as I mentioned in my e-mail to Belfast City Council, my solar powered bird bath in my garden has a better jet flow.
What was the point of having all the events at Rose Week, if Belfast Parks Department cannot clean this fountain up and switch it on? Me and my daughters are regular visitors to England and some of the beautiful parks there, mainly in the south of England, but one park that does stand out and is an example of how to do it, is Stanley Park, Blackpool. This fountain is amazing and a joy to spend some time at, having a packed lunch.
The whole of Lady Dixon Park and Wilmont House (that is another bug bear and another disgrace how this has been left to rack and ruin) was gifted to the people of Belfast by Lady Dixon when she died, to the old Belfast Corporation (now Belfast City Council), what an insult to her memory, to let this fountain go to rack and ruin, I'm sure her descendants are disgusted at this. When someone gifts you a beautiful area such as the grounds of Lady Dixon Park, show a bit of gratitude and treat it with pride, love and dignity, not with the blase, couldn't give two hoots, this fountain is an inconvenience attitude.
I received the usual stock reply from Belfast City Council, that my complaint would be sent on to various relevant departments, one of which is - the City and Neighbourhood Open Spaces Street Scene!!!! Eh? What on earth is this pointless quango when it is at home? I expect some type of reply that will be an insult to my intelligence, on the lines of cutbacks, staff shortages blah blah blah. I also mentioned, that I did not expect them to replicate the Trevi Fountain in Italy, just a half decent fountain head/jet, like the one in Stanley Park, Blackpool.
