点评:To the woman who was working at the front desk of Funtastic today — I completely understand that you have a job to do, and I appreciate that rules need to be enforced. But do you really have to be such a tyrant about it?
Within 15 minutes of arriving, I personally saw you make at least three children cry, while also frustrating and offending numerous adults.
Firstly, telling people that you advise booking rather than turning up is absolutely fine. That's your job. But the tone, attitude and manner in which you spoke to people was completely unnecessary. It felt instantly negative and incredibly passive-aggressive. At times, it genuinely felt like you didn't want paying customers there.
I lost count of the number of times I watched you stomp aggressively around the centre to "lay the law down" to someone. You certainly seemed like a woman on a mission. At one point I genuinely questioned whether we'd walked into a military camp rather than a children's soft play.
I particularly felt sorry for the lone parents with more than one child who were faced with the choice of either leaving their barely-two-year-old alone or leaving their baby. I watched children become upset when they were removed from the designated under-2 area, despite sitting there happily alongside their siblings.
Yes, I understand that the area is designated for babies. Rules are rules. But once again, the issue wasn't necessarily what you said — it was how you said it.
And then came my friend's five-year-old daughter.
She was sitting at our table eating her packed lunch when you approached her and told her to immediately stop eating because outside food isn't allowed. She's five. She has allergies. She was absolutely petrified and ran crying to her mum because she thought she'd done something wrong.
There are ways of explaining rules to a child, particularly a young child with allergies, without making them feel frightened.
You personally approached our table several times after this with further complaints. At one point I had to physically look away, take a deep breath and remind myself that going full Hulk mode and turning green with anger probably wasn't the best course of action.
And judging by the reactions and conversations I heard from several other groups around us, we certainly weren't the only people who felt uncomfortable with your approach.
Rules are necessary. Staff have a job to do. Nobody is expecting you to let people do whatever they want.
But there is a massive difference between enforcing rules and making customers — and especially children — feel unwelcome, intimidated and upset.
A children's soft play should feel fun, welcoming and safe.
Today, it felt like the complete opposite.
And honestly, that's a real shame.
