Overpriced, Uninspired and an Extreme Disappointment

点评：We booked this visit with high expectations and paid €80 in advance for a tasting for two. Unfortunately it was by far the most disappointing winery visit we had in the Castellina in Chianti area.
The biggest problem was the total lack of enthusiasm from the staff, both in the tasting room and during the cellar tour. It felt like they were just going through the motions. Explanations were delivered very fast, almost like memorized lines, and there was very little real engagement. Some fairly basic questions about harvesting and residual sugar was not ever answered.
The tasting itself was also poor value. We had already visited several wineries in the area, and this tasting cost about three times what we paid at some places and at least double the others. For that we got four wines and very small pours, maybe half an ounce each.
Even more disappointing, several bottles had already been open for a couple of days, with the dates written on the back. We were told they could not open a new bottle until the old one was empty. They did finally opened a fresh bottle of the basic Chianti Classico for us, which was appreciated. Ironically it was our least favorite wine, with a noticeably sweet finish. When we asked about residual sugar, the staff member either didn’t knew or just avoided answering.
The wines overall were among the weakest we tasted in the area. With the tiny pours, bottles open for days, high price and completely disengaged service, the experience just did not come close to expectations.
Which is a shame because the property is beautiful and the cellars are impressive. There is a lot of potential here. We left Castellina with great memories of many winery visits and some really passionate people. Sadly this was our last tasting in the area and our least favorite.
