点评:Coming from the United States, where we have nothing like this, the Shinkansen is a reason to visit Japan by itself.
If you’re a first-time rider: arrive early. I consider myself a punctual person. On the Shinkansen, that means you’re already late.
We traveled during peak tourist season, and navigating the stations was much more challenging than I remembered from my 2018 trip. Even with two very capable navigators in our group, we still found ourselves stopping often to double-check maps and signs. If you’re not used to large public transit systems, expect a bit of a learning curve.
That said, it was absolutely worth it.
The stations are filled with great food. The ride is unbelievably smooth, the views are fascinating, and the speed is impossible to comprehend.
The Shinkansen is one of the marvels of the modern world. I felt like I was on another planet, not just in another country. We don’t have anything like it where I come from.
I would gladly return to Japan just to ride the Shinkansen again. One of my favorite days was arriving at the train station early and watching all the bullet trains come and go.
If I were giving this review based on navigation alone, I would give it a three. That was likely due to our inexperience and the difficulty with language translation. I’m giving this review a five because the Shinkansen itself is simply otherworldly.
