点评：The Polar Bear Express is a train and should be rated on its performance, the performance of its crew, the condition of its coaches, the value of its fare but not on the tourist attractions or lack there of at the destination(Moosonee) that it carries you to.
The train consisted of modern passenger cars purchased from VIA Rail which were refurbished and repainted in the Ontario Northland Colors. They were spotless! They had beautiful leather seats that reclined and working Air Conditioners in every car unlike some of the commuter trains I've ridden in NYC. I've seen some reviews that mistakenly said the seats could not be turned around but their is a pedal on the backside that you depress with your foot to allow you to turn seats in the direction of travel.
No there are no majestic mountains to view on the trip so if you cannot appreciate the beauty of the Pine trees of the Boreal Forest maybe the trip is not for you. There are 186 miles of Pine interrupted only by numerous lakes, ponds, Moose Marshes, and wide rivers like the "Moose" that have to be crossed. The 5 hour excursion cost me only $49 for a senior fare. You cannot go from NY to DC on Amtrak for that price.
The train provides Wifi and a fully equipped dining car with seating at tables. There is a hot breakfast on the way up and daily diner specials served on the return to Cochrane. The women of the dining staff cook some entrees at home and bring them to work to be heated in the diner oven. I had home cooked Shepard's pie on my return to Cochrane. There is no "Gotcha" pricing as there is at airports and my generous portion cost me only $10.
The jewel in the crown is the crew that are friendly, enthusiastic, accommodating and will helat Super 8 ip you in any way. I also appreciated the pristine toilet on the long trip. When you got to go you don't want to be afraid to go. Excellent crew, excellent food, excellent equipment and we arrived on time to both Moosonee .and on return to Cochrane despite the loading of cars and pick up trucks baelonging to locals. This is rare in the lower 48 on trips this long. I recommend taking the car ferry to Moose factory on your 3 hour break, you can see it in 3 hours If you're too tired to return same day one night is comfortable .
