点评:My Family and I started coming to Kalahari (Poconos) about 10 years ago. It was always an amazing experience, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We usually stay for 2 nights (4) times per year, with a cabana. In truth, it has always been an amazing experience. The kids and adults always have a lot to do and the dining options are great. We started noticing, 3 or 4 years ago that the quality of the experience was diminishing. A few examples below:
- Check in- You are basically forced to use a kiosk and in the event the kiosk has a problem, which happens more times than not, you are forced to wait in a 30 minute line for an actual person at the front desk. The last 3 times we have been here there are real only 2 people working at the desk. 2 kids forced to wait for 30 minutes in a line for check in- you tell me how that works out if you have children.
- The bars (all 3 of them) are very under staffed. You can wait 15 minutes to get a drink. (Why??? Serve more drinks and make more money for the minimal expense of bringing on another bartender.) At the same time delivering a better experience to your customers.
- The cabanas are getting worse everytime we come here. The cushions on the furniture are so worn out you might as well sit on the wicker. The cleaning of the cabanas is extremely marginal. We showed up this morning and every cyshion was wet, there was garbage on the floor, counter was sticky, just not what you expect for $543.00.
- The condition and cleaning of the rooms is also on the decline. There are a couple pictures attached that show, what I assume, is mold in the bath tub and the black ceiling tiles next to the HVAC vent. Is it really to that point they aren't even changing filters any longer?? Or the cleaning supervisor doesn't see that and send a notice to the maintenance department????
- We reserved a 2 bedroom living room suite, a cabana for 2 days, had 2 lunches and multiple drinks in the water park, and dined at Double Cut both nights. That puts the total spend at:
Room- $1,386 x 2= $2,772
Cabana- $532 x 2= $1,086
Breakfast Buffet- $30 x 8= $240
Waterpark Drinks Lunches= $500
Double Cut (Both Nights)= $2,200
After spending $6,798 for a weekend, with all the aforementioned comments, it really makes us question why we are doing it. We have no problem spending money but doesn't make sense for the quality of the experience. A family of 4 could go th Florida for, probably, less.
The entire story of Kalahari"s inception is incredible, as well as the intiatives of giving back to African countries through clean water, purchasing artwork, furnishings, etc. The problem is that, it appears that the Nelson's vision and declining experiece appears to have been lost to the "bottom line"
Kalahari was truly such a unique experience, It's a shame that it is so far on the decline.
A couple of positive notes:
- All of the staff we've encountered are all very friendly and helpful, although you can see, and even at times, hear their frustration at ot being able to provide the best service.
- All of the restaurants- Double Cut, Blux, and Sortinos have great food and incredible service
- Lastly- Kalahari can become the very unique experience it once was- it's just going to take some $$ and management
Double Cut
