We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Alex. The house has a fascinating history and a visit to this historic site is a fun day outing while visiting Colonial Williamsburg.

We drove over and took the ferry to Surry. We drove out to the Bacon Castle. It was very interesting. I is said to be the first brick house in the USA. It has a building that was the slaves quarters. Just a very interesting place. Everyone need to go just to say they have been.

This is a fascinating house made more enjoyable by our tour guide, Ryan. Not only was he knowledgeable but also considerate in that he provided two chairs so that we two "wrinklies" could sit where possible. He was also patient as we laboriously ascended and descended the many stairs. FYI - if you need handicapped parking and entrance, drive past... 更多

This manor house is out in the middle of nowhere and the first tour doesn't start until 10:45 as they are allowing for people to get there from the ferry. Currently the original part of the house is covered in scaffolding as they are replacing the 35 year old roof. The grounds are small but nice and the garden is... 更多

Visited 4/15/17. Had an outstanding your guide, highly knowledgeable, well-spoken, and easy-going, believe her name was Alex. Recommend a visit, I learned a ton and the grounds and structure are beautiful.

Beautiful structure. Open only on weekends - off the beaten path, but worth the drive. It is the oldest surviving brick building in the Historic area - which Wlliamsburg cannot claim.

Stopped in on the way to Smithfield. The grounds and structures are quite interesting and full of historical information. The staff are very knowledgeable and very courteous. If you are an American history buff, this is a must see place. The Traveling Fireman rates this place 4 flames for coolness factor alone.

Well run site. Enjoyed the tour. Tour is much improved from back 6 years ago. Take some time to explore the outer buildings and gardens while you are there.

Bacon's Castle simply oozes with history. Built in 1665, it is the oldest brick dwelling in the United States. It is the nation's only surviving High Jacobean structure. It also features the oldest English formal garden in North America. And its slave quarters date to the 1830s. Located at 465 Bacon Castle's Trail on State Route 617 in Surry, Virginia,... 更多
