点评:Very disappointed in the text of the poster boards downstairs which term Bacons followers as “traitors” . Traitors to whom and what ??? The. British crown and the burdensome taxes on tobacco on small farmers? The Crown appointed governor who refused to hear complaints of settlers ? If these poor men were traitors then so were Washington Jefferson and the Boston Tea Party “Indians” ! Rabble ? Thieves? Thieves? Probably .But consider that the men who raided Bacons Castle may well have been Indentured Servants (or their ancestors ) and felt they were “taking back “ what they were owed by a rich landowner . Also the “rebellion “ resulted in Gov Berkeley being recalled to England ! This was one of the objectives of the uprising !!! Also the “new research” that the rebellion was really to justify a raid on native Americans far away on the Pamunkey River seems far fetched and no reference was cited . Seems doubtful that small farmers from Isle of Wight and Surry Co would care about Native Americans a long way away ( These counties had been peaceful since the 1622 rads ) The house is interesting and well restored . The tour guide needs a script which is a bit more nuanced concerning Bacons Rebellion and indentured servants .
