if you travel from san cristobal to palenque, this is a mandatory stop, is a hidden gem of mayan culture just 20 minutes of ocosingo town.
This unknown or less popular archeological site is amazing for its condition and the views are stunning. A must see. You are allowed to climb and to get inside the pyramids. The condition of the murals is fantastic.
At first I didn't know this site is Mayan. The place where it is located is so different from the jungles of Palenque or mediterranian vegetation of the sites in Yucatan. This site is surrounded by beautiful hills, like from a fairy tale - literally! The site itself is like a huge giant pyramid composed of many temples, palace, and various... 更多
I've been in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas before but I've never heard about Toniná archaeological site, luckly last time I went to Chiapas one taxi driver told me about this great archaeological site so I asked about it in the hotel. Almost nobody offers you this tour but you have to ask about it, have you seen Machu... 更多
We were trying to figure out if we could possibly do a day trip to Palenque from San Cristóbal De Las Casas when two separate people suggested Tonina would be a better option. Not one of the four of us had ever heard of it but put our trust in those who recommended it. We used a tour group from... 更多
We stopped in Ocosingo on our way to Palenque. We were driving with two young kids so Ocosingo was a great middle point to stop at. The drive to Palenque is very long from the Tuxtla airport, although it is a relatively short distance. After seeing Palenque, I've visit to Tonina was very relaxed and just as impressive.
Easily the best ruins I have been to......! You get the whole place to yourself with no guards which gives this place a real sense of adventure, something that was missing with all the rest of the famous Mayan ruins, the fact that people miss this place is a conundrum, I want you to go, but I also don't! I... 更多
When you have your own car, and are driving from Palenque to San Cristóbal de las Casas or vice versa, don't miss these ruins, just 10 kms east from Ocosingo. It's a quiet spot. The ruins are superb.
Recently discovered Tonina's ruin is the taller one in Mexico, the view of the ocosingo's to the top it's amazing. just 7 minutes from down town.
