点评:Not bad, but nothing brilliant. A nice walk apart from the giant hogweed!
Hurst Green is a quaint little village and the surrounding countryside is nice. It's understandable that the trail has become quite popular due to the Tolkien reference. The trail is not very well sign posted so people who are directionally challenged could find the trail difficult to navigate. If in doubt keep heading downhill toward the bottom of the valley and you'll be sure to end up at the river.
The wear and tear on the trail is managed in sections by the used of astro turf in order to reduce erosion. It does take away from the natural setting a bit but the increase in traffic makes its use understandable.
There are all sorts of public footpaths in the region which offer more rustic trails so it's quite easy to download a map and make your own way if that's more your thing. If an organised walk is what you are looking for I would recommend the Beacon Fell area, which is only a short distance away.
