点评:A Fun Way to Connect to the Past and the Future! While on our Galapagos Islands tour aboard National Geographic Lindblad's Gemini, we stopped at Floreana Island, and among other things, we went to Post Office Bay. Our guides explained that early sailors would put letters in the barrel (which has since been replaced by a newer barrel), and then other sailors who came by would deliver the letters if they happened to be addressed to someone at their destination. Nowadays, if you write a postcard, hopefully a good-natured tourist will hand deliver it for you. Superstitions abound. If you don't deliver the postcard by hand, you will be cursed. Well, in my case, one of my friends did receive their postcard delivered by hand in Minnesota. The other friends received their postcards in the mail. So, either some dastardly fate shall befall those lazy deliverers, or the more likely scenario is that different tour guides explain the procedure differently. Anyhow, this would be a very fun exercise for kids - it sure was fun for us. Hopefully, your tour will include a trip here and a little pre-planning with postcards for you. It was a very short walk to get here from where we landed, and we probably stayed for half an hour as people volunteered to read aloud the city names for people in our group to claim the postcards to bring back. Another group of maybe 30 people arrived as we were leaving. Again, I imagine that the tour companies have all of this timed so that you're not overlapping with other groups. I am very glad we went here.
