Siggi, our guide, is what made the experience work.
Winter conditions were real. Roads were not easy. But at no point did we question safety. He was steady, calm, and clearly experienced. That matters more than anything on a trip like this, and it’s where the value shows up quickly.
Beyond driving, he managed the experience well. He knew when to engage and when to step back. He shared context when it added value and gave our family space when it didn’t. That balance is hard to get right, and he did.
The itinerary itself was strong.
Snowmobiling on Eyjafjallajökull stood out. Clear day, full visibility from the glacier to the ocean. Silfra snorkeling was another highlight. Cold, but manageable, and the private guide handled the details so we could stay present. No need to think about logistics or photos. Just experience it.
Diamond Beach was as striking as advertised. Ice moving in and out with the tide, constantly changing. We also had access to multiple waterfalls and hikes that were easy to reach but still felt remote and memorable.
What separated this trip was how consistent it felt. Not just the major stops, but the time in between. Siggi used that time well. Stories, local insight, small recommendations. Nothing forced, just useful.
