点评:One of the joys of York of which there are many is walking the wonderful York City Walls, along the walls are many interesting gateways and structures ,one of the most fascinating is The Red Tower.
The Red Tower was constructed between 1490-1491 ,the tower gets its name not from the colour of the bricks or tiles used in the construction of this building but by a very macabre incident that occurred during the building of The Red Tower, the stonemasons who were considered the highest order of builders looked down with contempt on the tilers who roofed The Red Tower, an incident that led to a tiler being murdered by two stonemasons gave the tower its name ,unbelievably the stonemasons were found not guilty ,over the centuries the tower fell into disrepair and lay in ruins ,there were tentative efforts to repair the tower that came to nothing until architect G.F Jones between 1857-1858 restored the tower to its original state, its a beautiful building to view, most definitely well worth checking out if you're walking around York City Walls and easy to locate along Foss Islands Road.
