点评：Tongariro Alpine Crossing BACK UP HIKE!!!!! We had plans for the Alpine Crossing hike- but a massive storm rolled thru the entire week we stayed in the area & the hikes for the alpine crossing were cancelled for multiple days.
Heartbroken (😭😭😭) that we couldn’t do the very excited for hike- we chose to do Taranaki Falls as our back up game plan! This hike is very beautiful & can be safely done during a rainy day (unlike the alpine crossing) so we enjoyed this instead! It was a VERY wet hike but was doable in the weather. The waterfall was viewable even with all the mist, fog & down pouring rain.
VERY SMALL carpark at the start of the hike. We arrived early & got one of the last spots avail. Very beautiful hike that takes you thru open plains, vast rocky cliff lines, and the waterfall is stunning when you get to it. After the waterfall we kept going & enjoyed many beautiful views.
So many people come to Tongariro National Park JUST for the alpine crossing but forget the park has so many other beautiful hikes worthy of exploring. The weather was a damper on our alpine hike plans but we felt blessed to experience this trail as we would have missed it if the weather allowed for the alpine.
