A world-class game deserves a bigger museum
国际足联世界足球博物馆的点评
点评：There is a lot to like about the FIFA Museum, particularly if you have children who are football-mad. Unfortunately, the museum itself simply doesn’t seem capable of comfortably handling the number of people who want to visit it.
We went mid-week during the summer holiday period, at a time when many locals are away and tourist arrivals from several Asian and Middle Eastern markets are reportedly well below their usual levels. Yet the museum felt packed. The lack of adequate air-conditioning made matters considerably worse. By the time we had been inside for a while, visitors seemed almost as sweaty as the footballers in some of the photographs on display.
Space is the fundamental problem. The exhibition areas feel cramped, the shop is surprisingly small and the restaurant is hardly generous in size either. Given FIFA’s resources and the global popularity of football, it is difficult to understand why its flagship museum ended up in premises that feel so constrained.
The interactive experiences were the biggest disappointment. There were routinely 8–10 people ahead of us, with waits of around 20–25 minutes for some activities. Unless you are prepared to spend a very long time here, it means choosing which experiences to skip. We eventually gave up on several of them.
What struck me most was seeing how much this place clearly means to international football fans. There were visitors from South America and many other parts of the world, some apparently arriving with their luggage and making the museum part of their trip through Switzerland. One member of a group sat watching over several large suitcases while the others enthusiastically explored every corner of the museum. Their excitement was lovely to see, but it also made the shortcomings of the place more frustrating. For some visitors this is almost a pilgrimage, and they deserve a venue that can accommodate them properly.
We have now been twice because our kids love football. There certainly won’t be a third visit. FIFA has created a museum devoted to the world’s biggest sport, but inexplicably put it into a space that feels far too small for the audience it attracts.

互动体验环节最令人失望。通常都有8到10个人排在我们前面，某些活动需要等待20到25分钟左右。除非你愿意在这里花很长时间，否则就不得不选择放弃一些体验项目。最终，我们只好放弃了好几个项目。最让我感动的是，我看到了这个地方对世界各地的足球迷而言意义非凡。这里有来自南美洲及世界其他地区的游客，有些人显然是带着行李前来，把参观博物馆作为瑞士之旅的一部分。一群人中有一个人负责看管好几个大行李箱，其他人则兴致勃勃地探索着博物馆的每一个角落。他们的兴奋之情实在令人赏心悦目。不过，这也让这里的种种不足之处显得更加令人沮丧。对不少游客来说，这里几乎算得上一处朝圣之地，他们理应拥有一个能妥善接待他们的场所。
由于我们家的孩子热爱足球，我们已经来过两次了。但绝对不会有第三次了。国际足联专门修建了一座博物馆来纪念这项世界最大的运动，但不知为何，其选址的空间对于吸引来的众多参观者来说实在显得过于狭窄了。
