点评:Turkey Run is a beautiful park and incredibly well-maintained. The staff has been extremely friendly and helpful. One gentleman who works for the park stopped his car to ask if we needed help finding a trail. (We did.) I can't believe it's not busier here, but it is midweek.
The hiking paths are well marked. The horseback riding is nose to tail, which you would expect with them starting at 8 years old. It was a lovely trail, our guide was conscientious, and most importantly the horses appeared happy and well fed.
The park also has a lodge, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, plenty of restrooms, and lots of interesting features that are well-signed with their history. These include statues, sculptures, and small buildings. My husband, the soil engineer (kind of a geologist) loved all the cliffs, caves, and outcroppings. He could point out where large pieces of the rock had fallen and how the different layers of sandstone, limestone, were formed. I told him he should be a tour guide when he retires. Ha!
The campground is top notch. I forgot to confirm our reservation and they had plenty of spots left. They gave us a map and a list, and let us drive around and pick one. The bathrooms/showers are clean and well-maintained. The camp store had pretty much anything you would need, in small quantities, but available nonetheless. The lots are close but not right on top of each other. We parked our 32' camper in Spot, #213 which had a small stand of trees on one side, was vacant on the other, and had a little wooded area behind us. We had electric but not water which was not a problem because we have tanks and the showers were a very short walk. Every spot has a small grill and picnic table.
This is the nicest state park I've ever visited; I just can't say enough about this place!
