越秀公园的点评
点评：It’s now time for the 2026 Guangzhou Chinese New Year Lantern Fair at YueXiu park. This year it runs from 30th January to 8th March.
Last night to get to YueXiu park, my wife and I took the metro Line 11 to LiuHua Road (流花路) and left by exit D. We then walked along LiuHua Road past the shopping mall and then used YueXiu Park metro station to cross the road. For the festival, the main gate entrance is now the exit, so we followed the signs to the entrance.
You must scan a QR code to choose (adult, child, old, etc.) and pay (Alipay or WeChat) for tickets. They’re usually ¥50 for an adult, but last night was a special offer of ¥20, that’s why we went. The assistant standing next to the QR code board was very helpful and told me to just wave my passport to get a free entry. Luckily, I had my passport in my man-bag.
We joined the throng and were soon in the park.
There are signs indicating to walk anticlockwise, so we did. Walking clockwise would be like swimming against a tide of people. It was busy but not heaving, that’ll come when the holiday starts.
All along the path were illuminated displays around the theme ‘A Thousand Years of Cantonese Charm’. We had to be a little patient to get our photos as mums and dads want photos of their kids standing next to each display. There are also the usual huge displays on the lake.
There were the usual festival snack food stalls.
We entered the park at 7 o’clock and left at 10 o’clock, and still the park was crowded. After three hours of strolling, and there were still displays we hadn’t ogled and snapped, I was glad to slump into a taxi outside the main gate to go home rather than take the metro.

沿着小路，到处都是以“千年粤式风情”为主题的灯光秀。我们得耐心等待才能拍到照片，因为爸爸妈妈们都想让孩子们站在每个灯光秀旁边拍照。湖面上也有一些常见的巨型灯光秀。
还有各种节日小吃摊。
我们七点钟进公园，十点钟离开，公园里依然人头攒动。逛了三个小时，还有很多灯光秀没来得及欣赏和拍照，我很高兴能在正门外打车回家，而不是坐地铁。
