点评:We visited Therme Bucharest as a couple and spent the entire day there. It was immersive, stimulating, at times overwhelming — and ultimately deeply rewarding. This is not a quiet luxury spa. It’s a large-scale thermal world, and once you accept that, it becomes something quite special.
Arrival & queues
Yes, there are queues. They can look intimidating at first, but they move surprisingly efficiently. Staff at the entrance are generally helpful and patient, even if occasionally a little rushed — which is understandable given the volume of people.
Top tip: If you want to maximise your time inside, wear your swimwear under your clothes — it genuinely saves time on arrival.
Bracelet system (exceptionally well designed)
The bracelet system is brilliant and removes almost all friction:
- It’s your locker key
- Your payment method
- Your access pass
No wallet, no phone anxiety, no cash. Once the spending limit is reached, settling and resetting is fast and easy.
Even as a couple or group, bracelets may link to different locker rows — not an issue, just something to know in advance.
Top tip: Treat the bracelet like your passport — it’s the only thing you truly need all day.
Tickets & booking (learn from our mistake)
Buying tickets on-site is easy, fast, and clear. There are multiple machines and operators, and the time-slot options genuinely suit different needs — from a few focused hours to a full, indulgent day.
We initially bought tickets via a third-party site. While the purchase itself was smooth, tickets were only available via their app, which delayed our entry. In hindsight, not worth it.
Top tip: Buy tickets directly at Therme — cheaper, simpler, and stress-free.
Timing matters more than you think
The day and time you choose can transform the experience. The difference between a weekday and a weekend is enormous — almost like two different places.
Top tip: Avoid weekends, national holidays, and school breaks whenever possible.
Zones, atmosphere & expectations
Therme is a tourist attraction, not a private retreat. It attracts people — many of them. If you’re seeking silence, exclusivity, or uninterrupted calm, this is not your place.
That said, there are three zones, and Elysium (the higher-tier area) offers a noticeably calmer, adult-oriented atmosphere with:
- Multiple pools (10)
- Themed saunas (9)
- Scheduled rituals with oils and aromas
Sunbeds are limited, but we didn’t find it problematic — moving between saunas and pools kept the day dynamic.
Top tip: Adjust expectations early — once you stop chasing “perfect quiet,” the experience becomes far more enjoyable.
Pools, saunas & sensory highlights
The scale and variety are impressive:
Outdoor pool with jacuzzis — magical at 2°C outside
Mineral pools with lithium, magnesium, and salt — skin felt noticeably softer
Steam room was pleasant, though personally I prefer higher heat
Infrared light beds were extraordinary — I fell asleep instantly and woke up completely restored
The rhythm of sauna → steam → mineral soak leaves the body feeling genuinely renewed.
Top tip: Don’t rush — slow cycles between heat and water are where the magic happens.
Massages (a true standout)
Massages can only be booked on the day, and they fill up very quickly. Watching the administrator patiently explain each option to every new guest made it clear how intense demand is — having information available beforehand would likely speed things up.
We were incredibly lucky to secure a mineral hot stone massage with Chris — and it exceeded every expectation.
Both of us are experienced with massages and have high standards. Chris was:
- Exceptionally professional
- Technically precise
= Intuitively responsive to pressure
We walked out fully rejuvenated — calm, light, and deeply restored. Worth every penny.
Top tip: Book massages immediately on arrival — don’t “come back later.”
Food & drinks
The food hall offers a wide range of cuisines, including vegetarian options. Overall quality is solid, and prices are reasonable given the scale and setting. Pastries looked exceptional — my partner was genuinely delighted. Coffee, however, was a little weaker than I prefer, which was a minor disappointment for a coffee lover, though certainly not enough to detract from the day.
A clear highlight was the Mango Tree restaurant. It offered excellent flavours and, just as importantly, a noticeably calmer and more refined atmosphere compared to the main food hall. It felt like a proper sit-down pause — a moment to slow down, reset, and enjoy the experience more intentionally.
There is a dress code, as much as one can exist in a place where a white robe is essentially the uniform. Unfortunately, not everyone seemed aware of it, which slightly diluted the intended ambiance at times. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it was noticeable.
One practical drawback: there are no free water fountains. Water is readily available, but relatively expensive, although there is a wide selection, including vitamin-enhanced options.
Top tip: Plan hydration in advance and, if dining at the Mango Tree, be mindful of the dress code — it genuinely enhances the atmosphere and the experience.
Facilities & comfort
- Changing rooms and showers are spotless and thoughtfully designed
- Plenty of staff ensuring smooth flow
- Towels and robes available to rent; flip-flops to buy
- Air dryers for towels
= Small shop with scrubs, shampoos, salts etc
Everything functions efficiently, even at scale.
Top tip: Bring your own towel and flip-flops if you want to minimise extras.
Getting there & leaving smoothly
Very close to the airport — ideal for short stays.
We strongly preferred Uber over local taxis, especially in the evening.
Drivers arrived quickly, pricing was clear, and the experience felt safe and calm.
Top tip: Use Uber or Bolt — avoid negotiating or cash late at night.
Digital detox
One of the most underrated and genuinely refreshing aspects of the experience was the near-total digital detox.
Because everything runs through the bracelet — lockers, payments, access — there’s very little need for your phone. I only used mine twice, briefly, to take a couple of photos. The rest of the time, it stayed forgotten.
That alone changed the rhythm of the day. No messages, no scrolling, no constant checking. Just moving between saunas and pools, noticing temperature shifts, resting, and being present. The mental quiet that came with this was unexpectedly restorative.
In today’s permanently connected world, that felt like a real luxury.
Top tip: Use your phone intentionally (or barely at all). The experience becomes noticeably deeper and more calming.
Final verdict
Despite a few shortcomings, Therme Bucharest is a remarkable experience when approached with the right mindset. It’s energetic, immersive, and undeniably memorable.
Would we return? Absolutely — on a weekday, better prepared, and straight to booking massages.
This place rewards planning — and punishes unrealistic expectations.
Get the balance right, and it delivers something truly special.
