点评：We had an absolutely wonderful 2-person private 9-day Gobi & Orkhon Valley tour with Sunpath Mongolia in late-September/early-October 2026.
With less than two months notice, Doljmaa confirmed a fantastic itinerary for us which was a mix of luxe tourist camp gers (with attached bathrooms) and nomadic family home stays. Her prompt responsiveness allowed us to converse about once daily, given we were 12 hours away. This is a sign of a reliable and dependable tour company. She even arranged for additional airport transfers for us upon request, and met us before and after our tour to debrief.
Given Mongolia is so vast, driving can take 4-6 hours of a given day, with the first day being even a bit longer.
There are stops along the way to nomadic families, which offer generous hospitality where you can learn the customs and way of life of the locals. There are also lunch stops each day along the way to the next destination.
Our driver, Jagaa, was an excellent navigator as there were no paved roads for the majority of the tour. He has been driving for 20 years in rural Mongolia and his knowledge of where to go is an experience in and of itself!
One of the biggest highlights was the exceptional work of our guide, Baki. He was a phenomenal translator, photographer, guide, and chef along our journey. His kindness at every turn and assistance throughout the entire journey was one of the reasons this tour was so fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodated my needs as a vegetarian very well in a country where meat is commonplace for every meal.
Mongolia is an enduring land. The conditions may not always provide running water or indoor plumbing in the remote areas, but we always felt safe and cared for by the nomadic families and guide/driver. Staying with the nomadic families offered an incredible juxtaposition to the tourist camps, and if you’re feeling adventurous, we definitely recommend one or two nights with them.
It can get very cold (even snowy) starting in late September, so I would suggest coming a bit earlier in the season if you can. That being said, some of the yurts had wood or coal-burning stoves which could help heat the ger for some time.
We learned so much on our tour and booking a private tour as opposed to a group tour was certainly the way to go for us. It allowed the greatest flexibility for stops, privacy, and bespoke experience, which is what we were looking for.
Some highlights were drinking airag (fermented mare milk) during a spontaneous visit to a nomad family on our first day, walking the Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa) at sunset, cooking khuushuur (traditional fried dumplings) with our guide and driver, horseback riding in the snow in Orkhon Valley, archery in traditional Mongolian clothing, and conversing with the various nomadic families along the way (with the help of Baki).
This tour with Sunpath was unforgettable, and we can highly recommended it! Doljmaa will help you craft an experience whether you’re looking for luxury, rugged adventure, or a mix of both!
