点评:Golf course review
I thought I’d leave a more comprehensive golf review as prior to the trip I found it hard to find detailed information on the Lemuria golf course. I hope this helps.
I’m a 55 year old 15 WHI club golfer who usually plays on downland/woodland courses in Sussex, UK.
Firstly, the condition of the course as of Sep 2026 is excellent. Clearly looking at past reviews, like many golf courses that do not have full watering coverage, it is weather dependent. Photos from 4 months ago and 11 months ago show a much drier picture. Last month here there was a lot of rain apparently and the course is lush. Greens, fairways and tee boxes all very good or excellent. My only criticism of the course is that the bunkers are not up to the same condition as the rest of the course. Some have no rakes, some very compacted/little sand. As there are few people on the course and a small army of course maintainers, I imagine they rake when needed. This did not detract significantly from my overall experience.
The course is essentially split into two sections a flatter, at hotel complex level, first 12 holes, then a rear 6 holes through forested hills. You could walk or take a trolley for the front 12, but you definitely need a buggy for the rear 6. The rear 6 climb up over the forested peak with some extremely steep climbs and views. Given the tropical temperatures and shade offered I would only take a buggy. You get the usual water, towels and GPS which are all required in such conditions. The rear 6 holes are truly stunning and unique. I’ve played three courses in Mauritius in the past and this offers different and more breathtaking views. Highly elevated tees, narrow jungle-like lined fairways, breathtaking views in this section of the course.
Let’s talk golf balls. There is water present on most holes. If you’re not carrying a body of water there is water down both sides of many of the front 12 fairways. I played three rounds and on average probably lost 7 or 8 balls each round. You can buy second hand balls (good as new) 10 balls for about 250 SCR or Pro V1s for 350 SCR. The course for me was challenging and narrow. I played individual stableford and had gross scores of 95, 90 and 100. Each round having a few blobs (double net bogey) through my errant driving. Some of the fairways are very narrow off the tee, so it’s easy to 3 off the tee. The course plays to par 70, but the par 5 6th tee box was closed with a temporary fairway tee playing as a par 4.
I’ll upload a picture of the scorecard too. There are four pin positions red, blue, white and yellow in that order of length. I played off the white tees, some of which were not that different to the yellows (marked as pro tee) apart from a few holes. According to the course/slope rating on the scorecard, for my WHI 15 I had a playing handicap of 15 which I found very hard to believe. My golf app had different course/slope ratings to those published which gave me 4 shots for a playing handicap of 19 off the whites.
The booking was very casual. I booked two rounds ahead of my arrival but that wasn’t really necessary. The course is surprisingly empty, you could get any tee time you wanted. The only exception was Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning as there was a local comp on, but even then it didn’t look busy. Given the cost and remote location of this place, it is not like other courses that may get societies or big groups visiting. So for my rounds I went round with the buggy uninterrupted in about 3 and a half hours.
We planned our stay on the back of a Safari trip (silver wedding anniversary bucket list trip) so it was not possible to bring my own clubs. The club hire here is Ok. I hired some ping clubs that were pretty well used, the grips were mostly fine. The driver was a ping G430 to give you some idea. The club hire could be improved. There were Callaways available too but I didn’t see those. I’ll upload a picture of the current costs of hire. Green fees are the only complimentary aspect when resident in the hotel.
There is a driving range of sorts, but it’s a bit odd as it’s shared with the 18th fairway. It also has a lake down one half so easy to put the range balls in it. They have some times when you can’t use it , but given there is hardly anyone on the course this didn’t seem an issue. As I was using hire clubs I needed some practice so I hit half a bucket before starting.
In summary, each round cost me about 2400 SCR approx £130 a 18 hole round (buggy, clubs and balls). It’s totally worth it for the unique experience.
