点评:First off, I really don't like festivals with big crowds. However, I loved Oktoberfest and would definitely return again. You need to go over the course of a couple of days as it is so large and you will spend some time understanding the lay-out. Once you do, you can focus on certain tents and that makes things easier.
Logistically, there are 2 different entrances, and both are well connected to the city's various public transport lines. Signs (and people) will guide you to the gates. It's free to enter the overall grounds. The place is like a gigantic fair--although the focus is on beer and the tents, these are only about 1/2 of the grounds. The other part is given over to games, carnival-style rides, souvenir stands, and food stalls. Plus an ample amount of toilets.
The most popular beer tents have queues to enter, despite holding thousands of people. I avoided those, and went into the smaller tents. Most all have beer, food, and usually live bands. Bring a lot of cash, as most places do not accept credit cards, although I found a few who did.
In the middle of the venue is a place called the Oide Wiesn. You do have to pay a few euros admission, but for me this was the best part of the experience. It is only 5 smaller tents and usually much less crowded. Much more 'local', too. I loved it here as it was much more the authentic Bavarian festival I was expecting.
Another recommendation is to go on weekdays, prefereably before 6pm. There are much fewer people, and the festival takes on a much more relaxed atmosphere.
In all, even on the weekends with loads of people, the festival was very well-run, safe, and people behaved quite well. It was just a truly enjoyable experience.
