点评：Thoroughly recommend this mode of travel. Yes, the train tracks are rough in parts (as per some other reviews), but that is, in a way, part of the experience. The train can be a little noisy at times (squeaks, clanks, rattles), but that is to be expected. Maybe don’t book if you are too dependent on home comforts. However do yourself a favour and consider the trip if you enjoy something a little different, want to sit back and relax and see some beautiful countryside, if you want to enjoy some amazing off train excursions (Canberra, Coffs Harbour, Hunter Valley, Melbourne) and want to meet like-minded travellers. Also do the trip if you enjoy food (restaurant quality meals served on board and truly exceptional meals at the off train venues too) and a varied wine list, not to mention great coffee that’s available all day in the lounge car.
OK, we didn’t sleep as well as at home. Yes, we got tired of queuing for buses and waiting for transfers to off train venues. Yes, there was a 17 hour delay when the Woy Woy tunnel flooded after a heavy rainfall event near Sydney, so we missed stopping at Coffs Harbour on the way north. And admittedly sometimes the staff (ever-smiling) seemed a bit confused when directing the passengers on and off trains/buses.
But none of this mattered.
It’s not a cheap trip (hence the age group of mostly over 60s). The itinerary may unfortunately change due to unavoidable track or climate events (flood, bush fires etc), so try to keep an open mind. Remember too that financial re-imbursement for any changes is unlikely.
And do yourself a favour, take all the negative reviews with a grain of salt!
