点评：Dawki River is one of Meghalaya's top tourist destination and be honest Meghalaya is proud of it. Shnongpdeng is a beautiful place located in the Jaintia hills of Meghalaya where the serene Umngot river flows. The Umngot river is also known as the Dawki river, marks a natural separation between the Kashi and the Jaintia hills and its crystal clear water flows directly into Bangladesh.
Shnongpdeng is well connected with Shillong and Guwahati City. We travelled from Shillong which is located @ 95 km away from Dawki and takes 2 to 3 hours to reach here from Shillong.
Before going to Dawki I heard about same so much and also specially Insta reels. I was thinking about the cleanliness of the river that is it really that much clean or people are editing and posting. But after visiting the same I my self realized and riveted by those insta photos with a boat floating above a river so clear that we could see through it.
Umngot river is I think the only one cleanest river I saw as of now. During good flow of the water, the river remains so clear that one can count the pebbles underneath at 10 -15 feet below.
Another fascinating feature of the Dawki river is that the water's color changes from green to blue as it flows towards Bangladesh.
Things to Do at Shnongpdeng:
1. Boating:
Boating is the best and most popular thing to do at Shnongpdeng. It is a marvel to see the river bed right till the bottom and touch the water and enjoy the ride. You can buy boat for 700 INR per trip which generally lasts for about 30 to 45 minutes. Seating capacity of boat is 4 to 7 people. Fare remain same as 700 INR even for 1 person or 7 persons. They will arrange boat along with local boatman and a life jacket to all members who all are joining with boatman.
2. Walking on the Suspension Bridge:
This was fun and felt really nice to see bottom side clean river and other side serene Greenery then walking in such a location. This suspension bridge was built in 1932 for transportation.
3. Camping:
Shnongpdeng is a beautiful place to camp. There are many campsites located on the riverside. Most of these campsites are charging you per night including food and drop services. There are many but you need to find Genuine and good one to enjoy the campaign. Due to time constraint we didn't opt for Campaign during our visit to Dawki.
After all activities do Visit Indo-Bangladesh Friendly Boarder place and then you can return to Shillong or your next destination.
