4 day Inca trail, great trek experience but less great payment experience

点评：We took the 4 day Inca trail to Machu Pichu. The guide Beli was great, food was great and the overall experience was fantastic. We went in the rain season and were lucky to have no rain at all. You could tell there was a difference between the porters employed by Evolution Treks and the others, they had smaller and better backpacks but even though they had good backpacks they weren’t using their hip belts and we’re not sure why.
For payment, they only receive USD in cash or a USD card payment that costs 8% extra (which is a lot). That was really weird for us, coming from Sweden to Peru, that they did not receive payment in soles. We tried to get USD the day before the hike but it took too much time to get started with Western Union, a service we’d never used beforehand. So, we had to pay the fee with 8% extra cost, cutting away a lot of our budget for the trek which affected how much we were able to tip the workers. How hard could it be to just enable card payments at the site in soles? Also, it’s ridiculous to have a payment service that takes 8% of the cost. They really need to change that and improve the pre-hike experience.
Otherwise it’s great and we do support the cause which is why we chose this company. I hope they can revise their payment procedures to make it easier to use their service.
