点评:I decided to do Svinafelljokull as my Skaftafell Glacier walk got cancelled due to hurricane force winds. I had the right gear and having been handed my ass a couple of days earlier by the Solheimajokull and was prepared for pure wind blasted aggression and I got it. The glacier was grey gnarly and clearly really annoyed that someone would attempt it when the weather was so clearly screaming at me to stay away. I battled through tumultuous winds armed with horizontal rain, bits of grit and shards of ice which peppered me like bits of shrapnel. The gear proved up to the task and we reached the glacier which was an exhilarating experience. What was not expected was that the terminal moraine was so saturated that it was turning to slurry. This was quite unnerving especially when climbing out as your boots sink up to the ankle with every step. Pretty exhausting exercise but exhilarating and so different to viewing on a sunny day. You get a real sense of how dangerous these places be and your levels of respect get greatly enhanced. My advice do it in weather but I don’t regret a moment.
