Birthplace of Susan B. Anthony的点评
点评：I was incredibly disappointed by my recent attempt to visit the birthplace of Susan B Anthony. I visited on Feb 15, her actual birthday, and I was looking forward to learning about how she became so influential. Instead, I was met with a deserted parking lot and a closed house.
According to their website, Susan B Anthony Birthplace hours were 10-4. We arrived at 3:04 in the afternoon and found that the house wasn’t open and neither was the admissions center. There was no notice or updates, and when we called, there was no answer or explanation. The list of hours on the door also said the house was open, but it was clearly locked.
It was incredibly frustrating especially since we traveled 3 hours from New York City to Massachusetts to see this historical site. I later looked on a different site to find that the museum was having a celebration somewhere else. The museum’s website did not communicate that there would only be a celebration at a different location and that the house itself was closed.
On top of that, the stairs and ramp to the entrance of the house were unkempt and dangerous because of the ice. For a historic site that welcomes all ages, maintaining the entrance should be a priority. Ice made the ramp slippery, which defeated the purpose of having a ramp.
This museum needs to improve its communication, and take visitor safety more seriously. This could have been an amazing learning experience, but instead it was stressful and unsafe. I cannot believe the museum was closed on the anniversary of Anthony’s birth. This was a failure to honor the history the museum exists to protect.
