点评:We did a driving trip a few weeks ago to see some relatives in OK and KS and so that I could attend a conference. My wife wanted to add a few days to go to Bentonville to see the Walmart Museum and Crystal Bridges. Not really my "thing" but I'll do anything that makes her happy. Suffice it to say that Crystal Bridges blew me away!
I'd never even heard of Crystal Bridges and I'm not really an art museum kind of guy, but this was amazing and I loved every minute of it. My only regret was that we were there in August. There is plenty to do inside but there is a significant amount displayed on the trails outside and it was just too hot to endure that. We'll have to return in the fall or the spring.
The museum is enormous and in the last few years they doubled the size so there is a lot to see. The museum is here thanks to Alice Walton. It's free and both the museum itself and the collections it contains are incredible. I saw a Picasso, a Pollack and many other names you'd recognize but some beautiful paintings and sculptures as well by names I'd never heard of. There's even a house there that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that was built in New Jersey. It was prone to flooding there so it was disassembled, moved to Bentonville and reassembled. The first story of the house is open for tours and it very cool to see. Lots of mahogany and so many things taken into consideration in the design that I'd never think of but that make so much sense.
There's both a restaurant for meals and a kiosk to get a drink and a snack in the museum. I'd say to allow an absolute minimum of two hours though I think 4+ is more realistic if you want to take it all in; and that's not even including the outdoor exhibits.
Parking at the museum can be a challenge. But on the way in there is another building and you can park there (plenty of space) and they have shuttles running to get people from there to the museum and back. (It's less than a 5-minute ride.)
Everything was very well executed and there are docents everywhere that are friendly and very knowledgeable. Do not miss this opportunity if you have a chance to spend some time there.
