点评:The River Coln runs through the middle of the tiny village of Bibury, famous for Arlington Row, the extremely picturesque terrace row of weavers' cottages.
The river is neither wide nor fast-moving. It’s more like a lovely, slow-flowing stream with reeds on either side and ducks and swans paddling by.
The water is only very shallow and was quite clear when we were there. Several small, stone bridges criss-cross the river. It’s a charming scene.
The main road into Bibury runs along one side of the river but on the other side are water meadows, known as Rack Isle, a swampy, marshy area where the the 14th and 15th century monks hung their wool out to dry on big racks before stashing it the Arlington Row wool store.
Most people walk alongside the river to get to Arlington Row but there’s also a small, hidden path where you can walk alongside the water meadows.
TIP:
You can get a very nice photo of Arlington Row from along the roadside looking across the Coln to the terraces.
