点评:The Natchez Trace Parkway, the country's first super highway, begins in Nashville, Tennessee, and covers 444 miles to Natchez, Mississippi. At a speed limit of 50 miles per hour. Established in 1938, beautiful and serene, green and flanked by trees, it largely follows the footpath of the original Natchez Trace that was used by prehistoric Native Americans for 10,000 years. A two-lane road with limited access, it passes many historical sites, including the Meriwether Lewis (of Lewis & Clark fame) museum, monument and grave site, Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield, Tupelo National Battlefield, the ghost town of Rocky Springs, Mississippi Craft Center, Mount Locust Stand, Historic French Camp, Cypress Swamp and Emerald Mound, the second largest Native American ceremonial mound in the United States. My favorite stop is Port Gibson, with its many Antebellum homes and the site of Windsor, the ruins of one of the grand plantation houses of the Old South. Many sections of the original footpath are visible today. The history of the Natchez Trace, including the parkway, is summarized at the Natchez Trace Visitor Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
