Exploring the Ancient Hill-Top Town of Treia...

点评：Treia is off the beaten track for most tourists but for those who have the time to explore the more remote countryside, it’s a lovely part of rural Italy.
We spent a couple of hours here which was plenty of time to explore the town and stop for a lovely lunch on the outdoor balcony at Antica Fornace.
An ancient citadel town surrounded by thick defensive walls, Treia is built high on a ridge top which means that you have panoramic views over the surrounding countryside from many points in the town.
The best view is from Piazza Della Repubblica, the horse-shoe shaped main square. The square almost hangs off the side of the hill and has a long balcony-like area where we lingered for some time just taking in the sweeping views over rural Marche. The view extends to the Sibylline mountains and Mt Conero.
Being so high up, we had to catch an outdoor glass elevator from the carpark. We enjoyed the novelty of this. It’s a good thing to do if you have kids with you.
Treia is not big and you can easily cover the whole town on foot in a short time. You don’t even need a map.
Although Treia has a lot of churches, most of them were closed when we were there. An exception was the Church of Filippo Neri which is on Piazza Della Repubblica. Don’t be put off by the relatively plain facade, it’s much grander and more decorative inside.
Visiting Treia is mostly about soaking up the atmosphere. It has a lot of charm and we took our time to wander through the cobbled streets, walking through the town's ancient gateways and arches, discovering quiet corners, and finding panoramic viewpoints all along the way.
