Spectacular 10 day Santa Cruz to Alpamayo circuit trek into the remote heart of the Cordillera Blanca

点评：We did the Santa Cruz to Alpamayo circuit trek with Huaraz Treks and Climbs in early June 2025. Everthing was organised well, we were very well looked after by our mini expedition team: an interesting and fun guide (Erik), a charming and smiley, magician cook ('cocinero', Juan), two hard working, fit donkey drivers ('arrieros', Eloy and Victor), six strong and well looked after reliable donkeys ('burros') and a quiet 'emergency' horse ('caballo'). All the team were unassuming, understated, kind, gentle, charming, thoughtful, caring, funny and patient, wanting to keep us comfortable, safe and look after us with great care. We felt privileged to have such an amazing team.
This was an incredible journey into the remote heart of the Cordillera Blanca including close encounters with the Santa Cruz mountains and a circuit around Alpamayo mountain and others in the range.
After the first three days in the Santa Cruz valley, in the next seven days we only saw one other group of trekkers and three solo trekkers.
The trek gave an insight into the tough existence and way of life of the mountain people and captured the remoteness, harsh beauty, precariousness, vulnerability, fragility yet stunning and awesome landscape that accompanies the giants of the Andes. It is an adventure and experience that we will never forget. While we have trekked extensively in Patagonia, Bolivia, Nepal, Europe and Alaska, we rate the Santa Cruz to Alpamayo circuit trek as one of the best that we have ever done.
