A pretty big disappointment.

点评：I am going out on a limb here because I get that most people would love this trip. Our experience was OK, but not great. Our biggest issue is that our information was wrong about the departing time of the train. The Sunday and Thursday trains depart at different times, we we were given the wrong time (7:45am) instead of the right time (6:55) in every piece of travel information that the train provided. Even the train website was incorrect. By total luck, we decided to arrive very early, and stepped onboard as the train was pulling out of the station. Not cool.
The actual route of the train is interested for the first 90 minutes as it climbs over the Adelaide Hills, and then descends, but it's pretty boring from then on. The train runs through hay-growing fields for about 7 hours, dead flat, with very little to see but farms. It's sort of interesting for about an hour, but it goes on and on and on. Once the train reaches Geelong, it's sort of bumper to bumper to arrive at Southern Cross Station, meaning that the train starts and stops for about the last 90 minutes of the ride. Yes, it was on time, but no, it wasn't very pleasant.
Look, I love trains, but this is not a very scenic trip. Maybe if the grass were green instead of being brown stubble?
