点评:We visited Rebun Island on the second day of our 3-day Rishiri & Rebun trip (late August 2025, right after the Obon holidays).
The ferry ride from Oshidomari Port on Rishiri to Kafuka Port in southeastern Rebun takes less than 45 minutes, covering just under 20 km. Before the trip, we had watched A Chorus of Angels (2012), released in Japan as Kita no Canaria-tachi and set mainly on Rebun Island. The former school used in the film has been preserved as Kita no Canaria Park, so we asked the driver of our three-hour sightseeing taxi (¥30,000) to start the tour there. The park is about 3 km south of Kafuka Port, at the southern tip of the island. The film tells the story of a teacher—played by the famous actress Sayuri Yoshinaga—and her six pupils on a remote island school, revisiting their lives twenty years later. The location was chosen for its breathtaking view of Mt. Rishiri rising across the sea. Inside the school building, I was impressed by the detailed recreation—everything from desks to textbooks carefully arranged. A virtual appearance by Yoshinaga herself in the classroom adds a charming touch.
A beautifully preserved movie location with stunning coastal scenery—definitely worth a visit when you’re on Rebun.
