点评:Ali & Nino is one of those places in Batumi that I would still call a must-see, but it also taught me a useful travel lesson: lower your expectations before you arrive.
We were already near the Ferris wheel, Batumi Tower and Alphabetic Tower, looking around and wondering where the famous sculpture was. We genuinely could not see it at first. Our joke became, “We came all this way to visit you — why are you hiding?”
When we finally found Ali & Nino, the reason made sense. The two figures are formed from thin horizontal metal layers, and from a distance they can look almost transparent or razor-thin depending on the angle. They were also much smaller than I had imagined.
Then came the second surprise: the movement is very slow.
If you stand there waiting for the famous moment when the two figures approach and overlap, you need patience. We eventually decided that normal video was not the best way to capture it, so we took out a small tripod, mounted the phone and switched to Hyperlapse.
That turned the visit into its own little production.
We waited, watched, adjusted the framing, and restarted recordings when people walked through the shot at the wrong moment. At one point, more than six minutes of real recording time became only around thirteen seconds of Hyperlapse footage.
And strangely, that waiting became the unforgettable part.
The sculpture itself did not overwhelm me in size, but the experience of trying to capture its slow choreography made the visit memorable. By the end, we had spent far more time there than expected.
My advice: absolutely visit Ali & Nino because it is one of Batumi's signature landmarks, but don't rush it. Watch the figures for a while, understand the movement, and use timelapse or Hyperlapse if you want the effect to really come alive on camera.
