The church has been remodeled several times over the centuries; the most striking original feature is the beautiful Umbrian Gothic-style façade, with a finely carved portal and rose window.
The interior, however, has an early modern appearance (although the altars in the nave are from the 18th century), with a loggia on the internal façade by the famous architect and sculptor Andrea Sansovino (native of the town). There are numerous notable paintings by 16th-century artists, including Giorgio Vasari (who painted the panel on the high altar depicting the Assumption) and Orazio Porta.
