点评：To be honest I thought after Athens and Meteora I Thought I’d seen enough churches on this trip, then we spent a day wandering around Fira and found theIerós Mitropolitikós Naós Thiras or Metropolitan Church of the Presentation of the Lord.
This immense Greek Orthodox Church sits prominently at the western edge of the top atop the Caldera. This means that from the entrance one has fantastic views of the harbour below. The church itself with its white façade. domed roof, all white instead of the customary blue in most other churches in the islands and ornate bell tower is as photogenic as the vista beside it.
Inside is even more elaborate with beautiful frescos adorning the walls and ceiling. These are complimented elaborate wood and metal work the centre piece of which must be the massive chandelier descending from the domed ceiling.
Fortunately, photography is permitted inside, although not flash, to better capture this man-made marvel. Admission is free although there is a donation box if one wishes to contribute. The church is open seven days a week, from Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 11:00pm and Sundays 7:00am to 11:00pm.
