点评:We went with Rødne fjord cruise boats from the center of Stavanger and hiked up the wooden stairs to Flørli. The hike to Flørli is wonderful, but a very physical demanding one. We enjoyed it a lot, but have some recommendations for others:
You need to be in a good physical shape and to have proper gear: walking boots/shoes for terrain and good clothes (wind/rain proof jacket, hat, gloves, extra t-shirt/sweater) and enough food and water for the day. Other useful items: sunscreen and an emergency kit ( band aids, etc.).
You are going high up in the mountains and be aware that the temperature goes down as you go up and the weather conditions might change quickly. Even we (Norwegians used to hiking and changing weather conditions) were surprised on July 22 despite checking weather forecasts beforehand as to how bad the weather turned towards the top.
We spent about two hours going up the 4444 stairs, and it was quite tiring, but with many short breaks to catch my breath, drink water and enjoy the views we made it to the top. It’s a very special experience.
The stairs are quite steep in some places so this is not the place to go if you have trouble with heights. Note that you can only go up, not down because the stairs are too narrow (one person at the time) so once you are past the first view point (bridge), there is no return.
The walk down is actually more challenging than the climb up, because you follow a rather patchy trail that requires you to use your balance, strength and coordination. Go to the right at the top, then follow the red markings that marks the trail down (mostly red Ts painted on rocks) and you will be able to pick your way down.
As we reached the top we went from 15 degrees Celsius and walking in t-shirts and thin walking pants (me)/shorts (husband) to about 8 degrees, engulfed in fog, rain and wind. I really missed my gloves, but was happy to change into a dry warm wool T-shirt underneath a warm fleece jacket and rain and wind proof jacket. Husband had to change into pants.
We missed out of the fantastic view at the top and it was hard to make out the trail down because of the thick fog. It was actually scary for the first part going down, and we spent about three hours on the return. Mostly because we had to help some tourists who had no idea how/where to find the trail down and who lacked proper shoes/clothes and food. So we fed them and accompanied them all the way down. Luckily we had lots of food and snacks and I had an extra T-shirt the coldest one could borrow. However, you might not have their luck so remember to come prepared when going into Norwegian mountains.
After a while descending we made it past the fog and could enjoy the scenery and views on the last leg of the walk down. You pass rivers and water falls. It is very scenic. Lots of blue berries this time of year in July.
We just made it to the boat just in time so unfortunately this meant we didn’t have time to try the nice cafe next to the start of the stairs. Luckily, both we and the tourists could enjoy waffles and hot drinks on the boat back.
I would love to do the hike again on a clear day, enjoying the views also from the top, visiting the cafe - and hopefully without acting as a rescue party.
If you are unsure if this might be too challenging, I highly recommend the hike to Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock) instead. It’s shorter and less challenging, but also more crowded.
Tip: save the telephone number for the boat so you can call them if you are running short of time.
