点评：My experience in Chiang Mai was quite memorable thanks to my fantastic guide, Gobi and driver, Boo! On my first day, I booked the full day private tour to Doi Suthep, Palad Temple, and city temples (Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh). Gobi was very knowledgeable about the history of the Lanna Kingdom and taught me a lot about the history of each temple and how to differentiate the style of architecture to temples in other historic cities (like Ayutthaya and Sukhothai). Lunch was also superb, at a reliable restaurant! I had a lot of fun doing the monk chat activity at Wat Chedi Luang as well. It gave me the opportunity to sit down and gain new perspectives from the point of view of a young monk.
On day 2, I did a tour or two elephant hospitals outside of Chiang Mai and then a separate tour to meet and learn more about two hill tribes: the Hmong and Long Neck. Again, Gobi was incredibly knowledgeable and taught me a lot about the many other hill tribes in Northern Thailand. I recommend the elephant hospital tour as a way to ethically enjoy the experience of seeing elephants in Thailand.
A particular highlight was getting to visit a jade store on the temple tour and a Hmong hemp clothing store on the hill tribe tour. It’s a great tour addition for women who like to shop for unique pieces that’ll last!
Gobi was enthusiastic throughout the day long tour. He’s quite hilarious! Boo, the driver was exceptional. I have an inclination to motion sickness, but somehow, due to his driving skills, I never felt sick on the windy road to Doi Suthep. Nor the road to the Hmong village. That’s a marker for someone who is excellent at driving.
To recommend booking a private tour for the comfort and ease! And if you get Gobi and Boo as your tour leaders, you’ll be very lucky!
