Majete Wildlife Reserve的点评
点评：I cannot recommend doing a game drive directly with Majete Wildlife Reserve.
I joined the 5:30–8:00 a.m. game drive this morning, and it was an absolute waste of money.
The day before, my lodge contacted the park to book the activity. They were told there were no other departures that day, so if I wanted to go, I would have to pay the double rate because I would be the only passenger. I accepted and paid the extra cost.
The first surprise came at the end of the drive, when my guide casually told me that there were actually several other game drives running throughout the day and that I could join them if I wanted... by paying again, of course. This directly contradicted what the park had told my lodge when making the booking.
The game drive itself was extremely disappointing. Instead of exploring different areas of the reserve, we spent almost the entire 2.5 hours driving back and forth along the same roads. Since all the roads are clearly named, it was obvious we were repeatedly covering the exact same ground.
The guide then spent around an hour and a half trying to find a lion that was clearly not going to show itself. I eventually had to point out that we were wasting most of the drive chasing a single animal while completely ignoring the rest of the wildlife. There are many other species worth looking for, especially when time is limited.
During the entire safari, we only saw two elephants hidden behind bushes, where they were barely visible, and a couple of hippos from an extremely long distance.
Only after noticing how frustrated I was did the guide suddenly remember an area where zebras and giraffes are supposedly seen regularly. We drove there, spent no more than a minute looking around, saw nothing, and immediately headed back because it was already on the route to the exit.
The whole experience felt like driving around a tiny loop and hoping to get lucky, rather than making a genuine effort to maximize wildlife sightings or provide a good experience for the guest.
To make matters worse, after the drive my lodge called the park to ask why I had not been offered a place in another shared game drive if there were other departures that day. The park once again insisted that if I wanted another game drive, I would have to pay the double rate because I was travelling alone.
I fully understand that wildlife is unpredictable and that no guide can guarantee animal sightings. That is not my complaint.
My complaint is that this felt like a tourist trap built around a fixed circuit rather than a genuine wildlife experience. If the animals are not on that route, there seems to be little interest in adapting, exploring different areas or making a real effort to improve the experience. Instead, we spent almost the entire drive repeating the same roads and waiting for a lion that was clearly not going to appear, while the rest of the reserve was practically ignored.
A safari should involve effort, experience and adaptability from the guide, especially when a guest has paid the full private rate. Instead, I felt as though the objective was simply to complete the scheduled route and finish the shift, regardless of whether the guest had actually had a worthwhile experience.
For the price charged, this experience was completely unacceptable. I left feeling misled, frustrated and convinced that booking a game drive directly with Majete Wildlife Reserve was a serious mistake.
