点评:The crew on board was very welcoming and created a great atmosphere. I joined the group primarily to watch my nephew do his try-dive before heading off with my buddy, so I certainly don't wish to blame anyone personally—the instructor was a lovely chap. However, as an N2 diver returning after a 15-year break, the technical follow-through left me a bit disappointed.
Based on old memories from diving in cold lake water with a 2x7mm wetsuit, I initially suggested 8 kg. With a single 5mm suit in the sea and a steel tank, this was a severe overweighting. Unfortunately, no surface buoyancy check was done to catch the mistake before descending.
Throughout the dive, my breath control (lung-ballast) had zero effect—even with full lungs, I couldn't ascend at all, forcing me to rely entirely on my BCD. My weight belt kept slipping, and when I mentioned it, the instructor simply told me to go to the bottom to tighten it, rather than realizing the suit compression was caused by excess weight.
At the end of the dive back at the surface, I suffered a calf cramp from fighting the heavy weight. The response was just "you kick too much, relax, inflate your BCD," missing the root cause entirely.
Being integrated into a large group of try-dives meant the team was likely too busy to notice these obvious red flags. Returning certified divers should strictly insist on doing a proper surface buoyancy test before heading down
