Lively Square in the Centre of Tours & Full of Historic Character
Place Plumereau的点评
点评：One of the best things to do in Tours is to head to Place Plumereau. This large square is lively and full of historic character and from here, its easy to explore Vieux Tours (the old town centre).
Generally speaking, Tours doesn’t have the small-town charm that you find elsewhere in the Loire Valley. However Place Plumereau is completely charming. It’s lined with well-preserved medieval houses with 15th century facades. We spent some time looking at these colourful, half-timbered houses with their exposed beams and geometric patterns. Some of the houses have interesting sculpted features on columns and pillars. Others are covered in large X-shaped crosses. The criss-crossing was not just decorative. It helped to distribute weight and prevent the wooden frames from racking and bowing. In some regions there was an additional superstitious factor and people believed that the crosses might also help ward off bad luck spirits and bad luck.
The square is surrounded by bars and eateries, with tables and chairs filling the centre and giving the whole place a real buzz. Of course it gets busy and attracts a lot of tourists but it’s a fun spot and even when it’s crowded, you can probably still find a table somewhere.
Place Plumereau is best for pre diner drinks but its a bit more limited for dinner and to eat, we preferred walking down nearby Rue Colbert which is lined on both sides with lovely little restaurants.
