点评:I had wanted to do both the Toadstool Hoodoos and The Nautilus since we were in Kanab for the day. I was a little worried about being able to find the Nautilus and the condition of the road, so I stopped in at the Tourist center in Kanab. They gave me excellent directions and indicated my small SUV should have no problem.
From Hwy 89 turn at the sign for Paria Contact Station (White House Road), follow this gravel road. After a mile the road will have a big dip (looks like rubber tiles at the bottom), a short distance after the dip, there is a small parking lot (gravel) on the right side of the road. After parking the car, cross the road, go through the gate, and walk up the wash. I used the AllTrails app to locate the Nautilus but there were enough footprints in the wash that a person could have simply followed them.
The Nautilus is very unique and the afternoon we were there, we had the entire wash and Nautilus to ourselves. We a couple (65 and 75) were able to walk up and through the Nautilus with a little trepidation. It is a steep climb for us mature individuals. We considered sliding back down through the Nautilus but opted to walk around the outside instead. With so many of the parks and trails full of hikers it was great to have a place all to ourselves.
The best way to describe the Nautilus is that you are entering and passing through a giant stone snail with an ascending, curve passage.
We were both very happy we added this tour itinerary.
