Fall Milton Cruise
Seastreak Ferry的点评
点评：I took the fall day trip to Milton (early October 2026). Instead of joining the winery or farm group, I did the self-guided adventure.
I took the subway to the ferry dock at the Battery Maritime Building. Prior to getting on the ferry, I highly suggest ducking into the coffee shop next door: Joe Coffee Company. The ferry dock can be a bit confusing as they seem to be lacking in the sidewalk sandwich boards. However, there were some staff members on the sidewalk to check us in.
The ferry left Manhattan on time. Onboard, I was pleasantly surprised by the comfortable seating. There were several lavatories, and I didn’t have to wait more than a few minutes. The lavatories were much nicer than I anticipated. Although, they did get a bit mucky by the end of the return sailing. The onboard café and bar leave a lot to be desired. I thought there might be some fresh sandwiches or something to buy, but no. Being marketed as a fall adventure, I was expecting some fall treats and drinks. I asked the bartender about this, and they did have an apple cider… which I liked. Other than that, the café has very minimal packaged snacks. They take credit card. There are wall outlets at some of the seats onboard. So bring your phone charger.
There was plenty of upper deck open air seating. It’s a bit loud with the engines. Bring ear plugs.
Excellent views of Manhattan, the bridges, the Palisades, Bear Mountain, West Point, Beannerman Castle, and the Hudson coastline. We may have been a bit early for peak fall foliage, but we did get some blushes of color.
Much of the sailing was narrated by Sam. He did a great job explaining the history of the region, river, wildlife, towns, etc. Although, I felt like there could have been some more details offered about the native peoples who inhabited the region pre-colonialism. Nonetheless, he did a fabulous job and was easy to listen to.
Upon docking in Milton, I ordered an Uber to nearby Franny Reese State Park. There, I did a short, easy walk through the woods. There were some historic mansion ruins along the trail, which were interesting. Excellent views of the river and Poughkeepsie. After my walk, I planned to Uber to Nostrano Vineyards for wine tasting. But running behind, I instead went to a pub in nearby Highland. Underground Coffee & Ales was excellent. After a late lunch, I Uber’d back to the ferry dock.
If ordering Ubers in the area, it does take 10 – 15 minutes for the driver to typically get to you. So plan for some gaps in timing.
Back on the ferry, we returned to Manhattan. The sailing was calm and pretty with the sunsetting around us.
I look forward to doing this adventure again next year… hopefully with time to visit the vineyard!
