点评:Todmorden! Hebden Bridge's workaday neighbour. It's a gloomy, wet Sunday...Is this former mill town jumpin'? Well, no, but I did put in a good four hours!
The outside market was a flea market, suprisingly quite a lot of stalls, glad to see the market hall was untitivated up, like a lot of these halls, only the cosy market caff was open, servers were so friendly, £3.50 for a big americano and a toasted teacake! (this would have been a tenner in Manchester!) careful though you need to spend a fiver before card payment is accepted (I could have ordered pie, chips, peas and gravy for £5!!!!)
Across the road is the VAST Todmorden railway viaduct, on the other side is a BIG Aldi, a few charity shops were open and a couple of galleries, past the town hall which is unexpectedly magnificent for such a tiny town, is Lyall's second hand bookshop, small inside but crammed with tons of books on two floors, some great rare, limited edition, vintage tomes, also big on sci-fi and graphic novels - browsing, I nearly missed my train, but it's only 2 minutes up the hill to the station...splendid shop, will be back. So, good day out!
