点评：Yes, the forest and the mountains are beautiful, but you come here to see the deepest lake in the United State that is also the clearest. It is truly amazing and so worth the designation as a National Park. The blue is one of the most amazing color blues you will see anywhere and what is interesting in shallow areas it is the most incredible clear green. Since there is no water entering the lake than what rains or snows on the lake and inner walls, the water is some of the clearest on Earth. While you can still see it today when you visit from the rim, you cannot get down to the lake today or even for another two years.
We visited the park last September just before they closed access to the lake. While it is amazing from the rim, actually getting to the lake for a boat tour or swimming in it is incredible. This can't reopen soon enough. You can even fill an empty container and drink it as my wife did. We spent two and a half days enjoying so many great things about this park so it can be greatly enjoyed without accessing. While the park can have a lot of people in it, the lake really is almost empty where you can find solitude.
There is one great paradox to the lake with is its name. The volcano that created it imploded in, not exploded out, so the shape is really a caldera and not a crater. Finally, not water goes in or out of the lake, so it is really a pond and not a lake. However, Caldera Pond simply does not have the gravity of an incredible place like this. While it is a total misnomer, Crater Lake is the right name and the right place for you to visit.
