点评:It remains a mystery how some of TT-Line´s sea vessels and its crews are certified and approved to operate freight and passenger services on the Baltic Sea. I am basing this a recent experience, traveling to and from Trelleborg and Swinoujscie, and put mildly and conservatively, the overall standard is sub-par and raises some serious concern on the trajectory of this shipping company.
So what happened?
I was scheduled for departure April 12 with Huckleberry Finn at 07.30 with a return trip on April 16 with Robin Hood at 15.30. Indicated times according to timetable.
By way of background, I would also like to mention that I have traveled countless times on ferries to and from the continent; Travemünde, Rostock and Swinoujscie with both TT-Line, Finnlines, Polferries and Unity Line.
In all fairness, my expectations are therefore not to experience a five or for that matter any four star star hotel standard as a ferry's main purpose is to transport passengers and vehicles safely. However, a certain standard should be met that meets basic hygiene requirements, safety and comfort factors.
The crossing with Huckleberry Finn unfortunately left a lot to be desired. I had booked a 2-berth outside cabin and got a bit of a shock when I opened the door. A repulsive and musty smell of dirt and lack of hygiene. In all my years of ferry crossings, I have never come across such a poorly cleaned and degraded cabin standard. Thick and dense accumulation of dust on all open surfaces, small bugs and insects that seem to be moving next to the window, grotesque stains on the sofa and floor and non-functioning ventilation. Under all the criticism and how can a shipping company with such a rich and long history allow such a substandard quality? To add, no sight of any crew on the ferry throughout the entire crossing.
When it came to the return journey, I was somewhat more optimistic as Robin Hood is a somewhat newer ferry. However, it started less promising when the ferry, for some reason, departed 40 minutes late. No information from the crew why this happened. Complete disregard to its passengers.
I got a 3-berth comfort cabin in the bow, number 8024. Upon entry, I quickly noticed that the WC sink is completely clogged. These things can happen, but on top if, the bathroom did not appear cleaned after previous passengers, so additional discomfort followed. I made my way to the front desk where I'm assigned the cabin next door, number 8025. Well guess what, the experience wasn't much better than compared to Huckleberry Finn. Thick layers of dust and dirt on open surfaces, and the only things that seem to have been washed were the duvets and towels. The device that is supposed to hold the table in place also seemed to be broken and as seas were rough on this particular corssing, the table moved back and forth. In both cabin 8024 and 8025, an intrusive sound spread (perceived as a running drain) that never stopped. The noise gradually got louder and contributed to a complete lack of sleep after a long journey in Poland where I had been looking forward to resting on the ferry. According to timetable, the ferry should have arrived at 21.55. At 10.15 p.m. it had been added and communication went out to passengers to go to the car deck. I was standing on level 5, in the middle of crowded parked trucks at 11 p.m., all vehicles were still standing on car tires. For some inexplicable reason and no communication whatsoever from the crew. At about 11.20 p.m., i.e. just over an hour (!!) after passengers were asked to go to their vehicles, and 1.5 hours after the planned arrival time, the traffic started to move slowly. Total lack of discipline and organization from the crew. Several lorry drivers and crew members were smoking cigarettes on deck, with an obvious smoking ban, completely disregarded. In addition, the only functioning access / escape door to and from deck 5, had a lorry trailer parked next to it, making the passage extremely narrow and hazardous. I had to walk sideways and brushed up my jacket several times against trailers and lorries, scary and unsafe. Never have I ever experienced such a poorly managed and unorganized ferry crossing which casts serious doubts about any quality assurance mechanisms that this company is or is not following.
I have filed an official complaint to TT-Line customer service already, referencing my booking reference and very much look forward to a proper and proportional compensation.
