Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill的点评
点评：We chose to visit the museum on a wet day, as something indoors and dry. Entry is free, with a suggested donation of £5.00 to help the running costs. They can tag your parking ticket, if you park in certain nearby car parks, so the cost is limited to £2.70. The museum is bursting with items. They are exhibited in cases, packed in draws, and suspended from the ceiling. Access is easy, with lifts to all floors. We enjoyed the model railway, but it was disappointing that it was only run for a short period a couple of times during the day. I would have been happy to watch it for far longer. It would also be more interesting, if trains could be varied rather than just run continually round the loop.
I thought the exhibition of wool on the top floor was very good. I learned quite a few things about the process of producing woollen garments that I did not know before.
On the negative side, I lost a lot because many of the items were not well displayed, with too many things in a case. It was difficult to see them well and very hard to get any good photographs. If some items were removed into storage and the rest fitted with explanatory labels, I would get more from the visit.
However, despite these negatives, it was a good day out. We spent about two and a half hours there.
