A mixed wildlife tour on Mull — great otters and scenery, but lacked proactive guiding and professionalism

点评：We recently had a wildlife trip with Peter, and based on reviews we were looking forward to it being a highlight of our holiday. However, whilst we recognise some of what people say, there were differences with our experience.
The Positives:
* Fantastic otter sightings: We were absolutely delighted to get three separate sightings of male otters in one of the lochs. Watching them dive for fish and munch on the surface living their best life was a true highlight.
* Wonderful narrated drive and viewpoints: The tour took us through gorgeous parts of the island we hadn’t seen before, accompanied by interesting stories about the landscape. A special mention goes to a fantastic scenic spot he brought us to where we could see lots of the surrounding islands very clearly.
The Negatives - this is where we suffer from others here:
* No active wildlife scanning or stops:
While we understand guides can't guarantee wildlife, the approach to searching was frustrating. We expected a more active experience—finding a good vantage point, getting out of the vehicle, setting up, and taking time to properly scan and look around. Instead, he pointed out a historic golden eagle territory from a moving vehicle ("they might appear") but never stopped to let us wait or scan. We just had to peer out of windows as we drove past at speed.
Even the joyous experience of watching the otters was from the car. We scanned the water edge for them while he drove past very slowly. He did then "pause" for a bit, but there was no suggestion that we could/should get out and no sense that we could linger for very long.
* No spotting scope:
Unlike other wildlife tours we’ve experienced, there was no high-quality scope provided to give guests a closer, high-definition look at distant wildlife.
* Unprofessional road etiquette: Navigating Mull's narrow roads requires patience, so we were shocked when he chose to shout obscenities at another driver during a passing-place standoff.
* Disregard for livestock:
Sheep and cows frequently block the roads here and require patience. Unfortunately, he nudged a cow with the car when it didn't move fast enough. While it wasn't hard and it wouldn't have really hurt it, but it was completely unnecessary and inappropriate.
A Note on Mobility:
To be fair, he mentioned on the day that he was dealing with a long-term back problem which seemed to badly affect his mobility. This likely explains why getting out to set up scopes or scan wasn't happening. However, this is something that really should have been communicated at the time of booking. Given the high price of the experience, we would have chosen a different operator if we had known.
Overall, while seeing the otters and the stunning island views was wonderful, and we greatly enjoyed the stories, the lack of active guiding and unprofessional conduct mean we wouldn't book again.
