Good museum, shame about the flag
Mons Memorial Museum的点评
点评：The one star is not for the museum itself but for the lack of respect shown by the museum for the British soldiers who fought and died at Mons during the First World War. As one approaches the museum the most prominent features are an American Sherman tank (understandable up to a point since the city was liberated by American troops in September 1944) and four flags. Those responsible found room for American, Belgian and EU flags but not for a British flag. Given the sacrifice of British soldiers at Mons during the First World War (the first and last British soldiers to die in the First World War were killed at Mons) I found this absence both surprising and shameful. When I mentioned this to the person at the front desk he volunteered the information that most of the exhibits in the museum relating to the First World War concerned British soldiers but was at a loss to explain why there was no British flag outside the museum.
