点评:We visited The Dingle Gardens in early October, when the garden was beginning to take on its autumn colours. It had clearly been a challenging summer, with exceptionally dry weather leaving the lakes completely dried out, but the garden was recovering with the return of the rain.
There was still plenty of colour, particularly the vivid pink nerines and the Japanese maples just beginning to turn wonderful shades of red and purple. A passing shower added to the atmosphere, with raindrops catching on spiders’ webs and the garden looking particularly lovely in the soft autumn light.
One of the pleasures of The Dingle is how peaceful it feels. It isn't a garden with extensive visitor facilities, although there are toilets and a number of small shelters dotted around the grounds where you can escape a shower. Perhaps that's part of its charm: it feels like somewhere to wander quietly and enjoy the planting rather than a major visitor attraction.
A practical tip for anyone concerned about mobility: do ask about the best route around the garden. Some paths and steps are very steep, but there are alternative routes with much gentler slopes that make exploring considerably easier.
The gardens are only about a five-minute drive from the centre of Welshpool, making them an easy addition to a visit to the town.
A lovely place to spend an hour or two, particularly if you appreciate beautiful planting, autumn colour and a little peace and quiet.
